New Year, two Contests, and app updates
You can vote at the Obsidian Gem Contest and at the Product Hunt Golden Kitty Awards. See below for details.
Greetings fellow Omnivores!
Welcome to our first update newsletter of 2024, and a belated Happy New Year!
We hope that the holiday period was a good time to catch up on those saved items in your Library.
The Updates
After the big update on iOS Beta from last year (check it here), we shifted our focus to the Android app.
Android swipe action
In the recent Android release, we added swipe actions. You can move an item to the Archive by swiping left to right, and you can move to Trash by swapping right to left. The latest Android build, number 188, improves the swipe actions, making them less finicky. If you feel like the swipe actions are acting weird, join our Discord and tell us.
Automated checks in the Omnivore to Obsidian plugin
The Omnivore to Obsidian plugin will now check automatically if there are new items to sync. The plugin will start syncing when it is loaded, and automated sync is now triggered on both the desktop app and the mobile app. For this to happen on mobile, you need to turn on the core Sync in the Active community plugin list. Keep in mind that we have only tested this feature with Obsidian Sync, and not yet with the other options such as Syncthing and Dropbox.
Android improvements
The latest Android build has a new system for syncing highlight changes, and we also improved the theme. We're doing a bit more backend work on RSS/Feeds first, but we will be adding the Following tab to Android soon. Thanks to our open-source contributors: koreanbeaver for adding the swipe actions in the library and Gannonlawlor for improving our modals.
iOS updates
The latest iOS build, number 1.43, solves a few bug fixes for the continue reading section, as well as implementing some performance improvements and support for querying data using app extensions. This allows for creating iOS shortcuts like "Copy URL of my most recently read item". Thank you viticci for the suggestions.
